A
BUSY YEAR
ART SHOWS
An uneven path to nowhere. |

Red Hot Americans
Fat, tasteless Americans eating hot dogs.
My painting triumph for the year.
|
The year was productive as usual, I think I almost hit 70 paintings for
the year, and feel pretty good about most of the work I produced and
where everything is headed. I showed waaay too much this year,
fifteen times to be exact,
but as my friend Ian told me, "You're oversaturated, but if you don't
show you can't sell anything. Good career choice!" If he
wasn't a painter and in the same boat, I would've hit him, but he
understands just how messed up it really is to try being an artist.
On a happier note, here's some of my proudest moments all year:

COOL STRUTTIN'
June, Bolm Studios
My proudest show of the year came during Midsummer. A solo
show featuring about 15 large works, 20 new smaller works, and a
seperate room for six charcoal drawings, this show made me feel at
the peak of my command as an artist. On top of all that, a
large, enthusiastic crowd showed up and bought a bunch of work as
well. It could be a long time before I top this show.

SHOULDA BEEN A PLUMBER
October, Bolm Studios
Putting together the sequel for the original Plumber show (and the
first show Chris and I put together) was a tough, gritty time.
My work was changing, I was starting to feel burnt out, but excited
at the prospects of showing with three of my best friends who also
are tremendous painters. We also had our moment in the sun
recorded and broadcast on KUT's Arts Eclectic. |

WHILE WE'RE YOUNG
April, Blue Genie Art
The second big show I helped put together at Blue Genie featured a
good mix of painters, an exciting opening with Attic Ted wowing the
crowd, and the chance to get two friends from my KCAI days back in
the studio and working again. I thought my work for this show
was strong as well, sad, but strong, and was a turning point in my
confidence in color and forms.

PERSONAL MYTHOLOGIES
November, Daugherty Arts Center
The 'biggest' show I've been in so far, a legitimate application
process, slides, the whole deal - and it came together well.
Moved up from its original spot in March of 2005 this show featured
a greatest hits collection of works from myself alongside three
other diverse bodies of work in a large space. Lots of people
shuffled in and out of the Daugherty all month, so the exposure was
pretty good, as were the comments along the way. |

THE LOUNGE SHOW
February, Tambaleo
I really liked this show. Set up by Rachel Koper, my
paintings fit the dark brown walls with dim, sexy lighting to a tee.
You could sit at the bar, drinking, and watch people walk in front
of my paintings all night, at happy hours live jazz would fill the
space. It looked really good, and set a tone for the year on
what a nice, big show could do for my work. |
| Of course, not every year can be filled with fine
all moments the whole year through. The two stories to the
right are things that happened to
Chris
Chappell and I throughout the year. Funny little stories
that need to be mentioned again. |
