A
HOPELESS ROMANCE
The show, entitled "A Hopeless Romance' deals with the themes of
unfulfilled pursuit of happiness and the promise of beauty. The
show will feature work in two large gallery spaces - the upstairs
gallery will feature over twenty new, never before displayed works. The
downstairs gallery will feature another ten works done in the past year.
Michael's new work continues pushing the boundaries of pure painting
mixed with a satiric bent commenting on today's American society.
Inspired by a wide swath of painters throughout history, ranging from
Titian, Rubens, DeKooning, Beckmann and Levine, Michael has been
painting full time since his graduation from the Kansas City Art
Institute in 1997. He has called Austin home since 2002, and remains
unaffiliated with any gallery and works daily from his studio at East
Austin's Bolm Studios. He has shown frequently throughout town, with
various solo and group shows at the Daugherty Arts Center, Bolm Studios,
Blue Genie, the Austin-Bergstrom Airport and various alternative spaces.
