June 26, 2004 -  Nearly forty new and recent paintings and drawings by Michael Schliefke are on display through June 30.  The opening was an exciting and hot night, filled with pleased art lovers perusing the great gallery space at Bolm Studios, and I was able to meet and chat with a lot of great folks the entire night.

The works in the show are a continuation of the series of work begun in last October's 'Shoulda Been a Plumber' show and this April's 'While We're Young' painting exhibition.

The new work reflects the process of painting, and as such, are more raw, but no less developed than other work.  Michael Schliefke states, "I feel the imagery is breaking up on me, but I don't think it is coming at the expense of subject or final image.  Instead, the new work feels like everything is breaking down to its vital components of paint and form, and shows the digging that I do to come up with the imagery and composition."  Continuing with the constant themes in his work, this show serves as a midsummer reminder of the new work that is already coming together for this October's 'Shoulda Been a Plumber Too' painting exhibition.
