MARCH STUDIO VIEW
NEW STEPS
March 26, 2005 - There's a sea change happening in the studio
these days. While I begin to rebuild my supply of paint,
canvas, and wood, I'm adding a printing press and zinc plates to
the process of art making. There's a couple reasons for
making a commitment to a new medium: the first is that
printmaking and drawing frees me up to make images that don't
have to hold up to the weight of the painted canvas. By
scurrying to drypoints, monoprints and etchings, I can produce a larger body
of work faster and cheaper, creating multiples at the same time.
I'll also be able to re-translate my own paintings into
drypoints and etchings and be able to offer those up at shows as
well, and perhaps cover the tremendous costs associated with oil
paintings. the sky feels like the limit right now, and
once my new press arrives, and I dust off my old printmaking
tools leftover from my days as a student at the Kansas City Art
Institute, I'll be back in business again, building a whole new
body of work in a new medium. |

In addition to making drypoint prints, I'm also in the process
of printing my own t-shirts. |
