DRAWING LIKE MAD

JUNE 2007 STUDIO UPDATE
I've been drawing more in the past couple of months than I have in ages.  Continuing the work I started on the burlesque dancers at the Dr. Sketchy's drawing sessions, I've broken out into some full on figure drawing and have even been working from photographs trying to produce a mini-mountain of work for the couple of shows that I have coming up in the next few weeks. 
 
It's been great working from life again, and the drawings that I've worked on have been intense fifteen minute sketches where I'm finding the dynamic of form and shadow once again.  I've brought the sketches back into my studio where I've been pushing paint over a slew of canvases to figure things out once again. 

I showed a couple of friends some of my recent pencil drawings, and they were surprised.  "I didn't know you could draw... ...like that" was the best line to come from the bunch.  I still don't feel like this tighter work, paying attention to light and detail, is very different from my regular processes.  Working from life always seems to reinvigorate my work, and there's a relief when I don't have to make everything up all the time.
