THE EYES ON MARCH
March 15, 2004 - With almost all my canvases painted on or lined up for use, my 40 yard roll of canvas I bought in January all but a distant memory, times are now as tight as they get.  My belt tightened, sleeves rolled up (conveniently showing off my tattoo in the process), it's definitely crunch time with the big 'While We're Young' show happening in a mere month, followed up with a busy, busy May that features my solo show at Mojo's Daily Grind

I'm in fairly good shape for April, and I'm still being the eightball for the May show, but with some hard work, long hours and plenty of new ideas flowing, things should come together one way or another for both shows, along with the rest of the events that are planned

And here is a view of the progress I've made.  With my work from my recent show at Tambaleo back at the office, my new stuff fits in just fine.  In the painting on the right, I was thinking a lot about Thomas Hart Benton in this little scene, and the night after I finished it I had an incredibly lush dream set in a similar land, but with a bit more turmoil, and even a little bit of bitterness.

The work that remains to be done before the show in April goes up.  I feel like I'm in a bad place with most of these, not that they're bad paintings, but I'm feeling rather stuck.  Not wanting to finish, hating the color, worries about space all are gnawing at my little brain.  One night I'll walk into studio with a six pack and finish them all up without worries, but in the meantime, I'll keep gritting my teeth.  So I've picked up some charcoal and started some large drawings I hope will keep the studio blood flowing.

Some of the work that remains for the Mojo's show in May.  A fine mixture of laughing at Americans, politics, and the pretentious little world of art.
