MARCHING ON...

The paintings are beginning to stack up like pancakes.

March 22, 2004 -  With work beginning to be finished up on Mr. Schliefke's little corner of the 'While We're Young' show that takes place on April 16-17 at Blue Genie, more attention has begun to be paid to the solo show that goes up on May 1 at Mojo's Daily Grind

With temperatures already hovering nicely in the 80's on a daily basis, summer seems like it is just around the corner.  Despite the amazement of my studio mate Chris Chappell, I'm been able to conjure up some of those summertime feelings for a couple new paintings that will make up the cornerstone of my show at Mojo's in May.  Here's the first one, it's about 4' x 6'.

With that fella moving along nicely, I soon found myself entrenched in the truly American vision of happiness: obesity and hot dogs.  Don't get me wrong, I love hot dogs dearly, and don't blame them in any manner for the degree of fatness that is sadly on display everywhere you look in this not so little anymore country, but hell, if you can't laugh at things, what can you do?  I mean, the US government just made obesity the biggest killer in the country.

But of course, that's not all I'm working on.  While still stuck on some paintings I need to finish for April, I've launched into some large drawings carrying out similar themes and such.  Here's some quick views on the unfinished work:

Two more finished ones on the left, the ones above are still just youngin's.  I do think the one on the left above can turn out to be one of those tremendous moments in drawing, I'll have to see how it turns out.  It's raw, rough, and a bit randy.  A deadly combination.
