SWEARING AT MOTORISTS

March 17, 2004 -  My friend Chris and I met Dave, the frontman, outside the Cactus Club in the sunny heat of mid-winter.  As St. Paddy's Day festivities raged around us, along with the buzz of the start of the annual SXSW music festival, Dave was trying to draw a crowd for his free set.  He told us,  'there's free food at the club down the road too, free beer too, you should head over there and get some".  we headed over to grab some beans and rice, and soon found ourselves back at the show, Dave setting up onstage.

FLASHBACK:
July, 2002:
I randomly Swearing at Motorists for the first time at Emo's (amazingly) in Juiy, 2002 and still can't forget the set. It featured Dave, a young Frank Zappa look alike, take the stage with a guitar and frizzy hair and he immediately chastised the young Emo slackers for talking and told them to shut up while he works. My ears immediately perked up, and I put down my PBR, turned around and took notice.

The set was amazing, thickly felt songs dripping from some heavy chords and Dave's deep voice carried the first half of the show. Before a drummer joined him half way through, the only other prop accompanying him onstage was an Ohio state flag. The music is intense, his voice amazing, all great romantic songs about loves gone by and thick with experience.
