The online chronicles of a painter living in Austin, Texas

Austin  Man Locates John Aielli Imposter

June 12, 2003- Austin, Texas - Thinking he had found gold, Austinite, KUT listener and Ekletikos fan, Michael Schliefke thought he had run into the man himself: radio host John Aielli.

Instead, he had run into a man who wasn't John Aielli and whose name he has already forgotten.  What he didn't forget was the fact he was from San Antonio, and was looking for a good radio show to listen to.

Michael stepped up to the plate for KUT, and liberally plugged their online listening capabilities, and unleashed whole minutes of devotional praise for the daily 5 hour show and its legendary host.

Mr. Schliefke was able to sift through the fuzzy alcoholic fog that was plaguing his head and coherently go on about John Aielli and his eclectic programming choices, even discussing February's infamous Squirrel Appreciation Show, when all the music for the five hour program was dedicated to the little rodent.

Will the real John Aielli please stand up?

Undaunted that perhaps this gentleman's denial of his being John Aielli could have been a clever John Aielli ruse to see what his one of his legions of listeners was thinking about his show, this exchange took place:

Michael: "Oh sure, most everybody in Austin listens to him everyday, it's amazing.  And without a doubt, everyone gets tired of him for a month or two, and then stop listening."
Fake John: "Really?  Then what do you listen to?"
Michael: (uncertain wavering) "Commercial radio..."
Fake John
: (cautious) "Clear Channel?"
Michael: "Exactly. To remind us of how good we have it."

After some more brief exchanges, both men went their separate ways.  Michael a bit disappointed it was not Jon Aielli, Fake John Aielli a bit more wizened and soon to be a KUT listener.
