YOU ONLY TURN 29 1/2
ONCE... HALF BIRTHDAY SPECTACULAR!
October 20, 2004 - Carrying on
my own tradition of eschewing the normal procedure for celebrating my
real birthday in April, I am once again making plans to get together
with good friends on the evening of October 23rd to celebrate the day I
turn 29 1/2.
Last year's festivities included Big Macs at
McDonalds followed by a nail biting and tense
round of golf at Peter Pan Putt-Putt. I would like to note
that I pulled out a last stroke victory, perhaps partly due to some
half-birthday luck, but a victory nonetheless! Afterwards, things got
out of control at my usual stomping grounds of Casino El Camino.
Keeping with the themes of white trash food and middle class sports,
bowling will be involved.
I've noticed this page is loading slow, if you
can't vote for Strangelove or bowling, drop me an email at
info@schliefkevision.com
and I'll tally the results.
Food at the Dart Bowl
never lets one down.
Of course, Casino El Camino's kitchen
has never let anyone down either...
This year's plan is to be
decided by a vote of SCHLIEFKEVISION readies.
The plans to consider:
1. To meet
at Dart Bowl (5700 Grover,
map) and gobble up a delicious, fatty,
greasy, horrible for your health but mind blowing delicious plate of
food from their award winning diner, and then strap on those rental
bowling shoes (bonus points for bringing your own) and bowl a few games,
and enjoy a few beers.
2. To meet downtown, catch
a rare viewing of Dr. Strangelove at the
Paramount Theater, and then walk up Sixth Street and grab a Casino
burger, and drinks from the usual stomping grounds:
Pros and cons:
Bowling is always fun, but the place could be packed, it's way north and
is out of the way for East and South siders.
The Paramount is within
walking distance of Sixth Street, it's centrally located, and Dr.
Strangelove is one of my favorite movies of all time.
Watching Dr. Strangelove
would also carry on the tradition of watching movies on my birthday/half
birthday. I snuck away from the world last April with my cell
phone at home to catch a screening of Cool Hand Luke (the best movie of
all time), complete with an egg eating contest beforehand.
So, I have to admit, I'm
pulling for Strangelove in this vote, but I'll leave it up to you.
Vote wisely.
