WHEN NOT BEING STUPID IS NOT ENOUGH
Why the War Really Sucks.

March, 2003: With the United States poised as Big Brother to drop the Mother of All Beatings on a poor sibling, here's why the war is not the best route to go. I'm not a bleeding heart liberal, nor a pansy wearing idealist who thinks daisies should be put in the end of guns and not cut, but the obvious has been overlooked by talk radio warmongers building conservative and normal thinking Americans into a war frenzy that sadly, has proven to be irreversible.

First, I believe Iraq is a threat to the world. I believe they are lying to the UN about chemical and biological stockpiles, and have mislead the world for 12 years. Those are pretty much indisputable facts. Why the strong call to action now? There has been no link between Al Qaeda and Hussein made, only comments between the two that have proven a deep animosity between the two organizations. The religious fundamentalists of Al Qaeda see Iraq's regime as heretics, Iraq has never aligned themselves with Al Qaeda in the least, and have gone out of their way to destroy religious groups throughout Iraq. The only time Iraq has raised a Muslim flag is when they have come under direct international pressure and tried to rally for "an Arab cause against the invaders." When trying to make a link between Al Qaeda and Iraq, remember 15 of 19 hijackers were Saudis, and not one was Iraqi.

Going Alone
Acting without the UN sets a dangerous, and defenseless position. With an ugly precedent set by the US of attacking another sovereign nation that has not proven to be an active threat, there is no stopping Syria attacking Jordan, North Korea invading South Korea, etc. Having the US sidestep the UN entirely makes the US the solid aggressor. Dealing with the French in a better way than renaming sides for burgers is watching the way they operate politically. Just last year during the runoff elections, a right wing conservative was the candidate voted to run against Chirac. Of course, he was trounced by over 80% of the votes, but they raise a stink and draw attention to themselves, and then settle down. Already, with a pledge to support the war if chemical weapons are involved, the French are true to form. A slicker diplomatic touch from the US could have eliminated this entire issue. Instead, Americans will forever have to live with freedom toast. And is the UN a useless organization? Didn't the US hatch the idea of the League of Nations and the UN to give the world a tool to resolve problems and differences without having a world war every 10 years?

North Korea Anyone?
A larger threat to the world is North Korea. A barren land, devoid of food, resources and an economy, North Korea's only currency in the world is missiles, and more importantly, nuclear missiles. The US' role should have been to get S. Korea, China, Russia and Japan to decide on a regional way to engage North Korea without a military threat, and involve them in world politics, making missile and nuclear production useless for the Koreans. Again, constructive diplomacy instead of Bush' harsh brinkmanship/warmongering would have been a simpler route to go.

Al Qaeda Anyone?
Remember Osama bin Laden? Remember his sleeper cells across the world? Don't worry about the probability of retaliatory attacks from Al Qaeda, you've been made '
Ready' by Tom Ridge, director of Homeland Security, with duct tape. Without finding all the Al Qaeda leaders, and fully ending their reign of terror, the war on terrorism will go on. And on. And on. Think the war in Iraq will be easy? Possible enough it could be done in weeks. Will we seriously have Saddam Hussein in our hands at the end of it? And what better way to provoke another generation of Muslims who are conditioned to hate America? Why give the Arab world another reason to hate the US by going in without the perceived OK from the United Nations.

Christians Want it Badly
I don't think anyone wants to say it, but there is no doubt this is a religious war. It really is Bush' Crusade. A born again Christian who invokes the Bible and God in more speeches than a lying Catholic child molester, Bush must honestly believe he is doing Christ's work. Like all good religious hypocrisy over the past two millenniums, God is always on your side. Ask Al Qaeda if they're doing Muhammed's work. Seeing American soldiers lined up on the front lines on CNN and Fox News saying, "Jesus wants this" is perhaps a worst affront to organized religion than some basketball player saying Jesus lets him dunk. So much for the Christian doctrine of loving your neighbor. It's an Old Testament world, and it's your eye.

The Collapse of American Civil Rights
Since the 11th of September, the American Constitution has been defecated on by John Ashcroft and his batch of miserable henchmen who believe another terrorist attack can be prevented by knowing who is checking out 'Catcher in the Rye' and buying the gallon size of Surf laundry detergent. Privacy and free speech are no longer American rights, they've fallen by the wayside into a world that is rapidly becoming one giant economic database. Human spirit is squashed by turning everyone into small minded consumers who fear each other and the ramifications of their own beliefs. Speedy trials, representation by lawyers, and the basic right to know what you did to get locked in jail were great ideas, they just aren't American anymore. Each and every American administration will use whatever excuse possible to continue this trend. What better legacy for Osama and company than to strip Americans of the very rights that the terrorists constantly attack.

Inner Circle Deals with Iraq
While the American administration smeared France as sleeping with the enemy while having $80 billion deals with the enemy, Bush, Cheney and his cronies already set up their friends with the inside track to getting 900 billion dollar secret deals to rebuild the country they are going to destroy. It's an awful thing to have foreign investment or future lucrative deals if you are a foreign state, but if you are in the inner sanctum, you only sleep with the enemy when you sleep with a mirror. Dick Cheney is a corrupt, miserable bastard. When will the American people stand up to this horrible affront to the American political system?

Where would war criminals be tried?
With the United States refusing to join the International Court, where do any captured Iraqi war criminals get tried? At a federal courthouse in Topeka? With the 20th Sept. 11th hijacker making a mockery of the American judicial system, how can we expect Iraqi criminals to be tried and brought to justice? Camp X-Ray? Our wonderful record of human rights (racist cops, obsencely racist death penalty) would only be laughed at even more by all those derned ferners.

Stop Selling Arms to the Jews
The easiest first step to appeal to Palestinian and Arab causes without sacrificing any American values? The easiest answer of all: stop selling guns and tanks and bombs to Israel. Israel buying and using American weapons against the Palestinians builds generations of resentment not only against the Israelis, but also against (surprise Middle America!) the good, ol' peace loving U.S. of A. What did we dod to deserve the 11th of September attacks? Why do the Arabs hate us so? Simply making Israel get its guns elsewhere (France, anyone?) puts the US in a much better place to broker peace in the Middle East and not piss off an entire fifth of the world's population at one time.

When will it end?
When the war finally wraps up, and Iraq is still smoking from munitions, fires, and possible burning chemicals, do Americans get the right to go home, sleep comfortably and wake up to drive to work in their SUV the next day consuming large quantities of cheap Iraqi oil? Nope. Years of rebuilding Afghanistan have only begun, and coupled with years of rebuilding Iraq, the American economy will be strapped, soldiers will be constant targets for anti-American groups, and the bad blood of foreign invaders occupying Iraq will only complicate future dealings in the Middle East.

Cheers to the War on Iraq!
