With two full nights behind everyone, options for
doing something fun and new on Halloween seemed a bit of a stretch.
Slightly tired and wary of heading up Sixth Street, I spent most of
the day cleaning up the studio alongside Matt and Myra, and
together, we found enough stereo components lying around to build a
decent turntable soundsystem. With my entire collection of
records now ready to be unleashed, I started making phone calls to
everyone who is programmed into my new phone inviting them out to a
Halloween Dance Party at 9 pm.
After moving around a few tables to clear the dance
floor, everyone started arriving. The music ranged from Tom
Jones to the Coctails, Elvis, Michael Jackson, and a healthy dose of
Neil Diamond. At one point Jane Fonda's Workout was playing,
and some impromptu calisthenics broke out on the dance floor.
Any time things started getting slow, Rick James or Footloose would
rev things up nicely. With a few odd skips here or there, it finally
was time to slow things down a bit and I made an announcement it was
time for the prom night song. I put on Clapton's 'Wonderful
Tonight' and was prepared to sit on the stairs drinking a beer when
I turned from the turntable and last night's Marilyn was waiting for
my dance. I quickly and carefully pinned my corsage on her,
and we glided across the dance floor. The music
continued, the beer kept going down, and things were pretty light,
with some insane dancing and laughter all around. L. and I had
to dance together again, as an announcement was made it was time for
the King and Queen of the prom to dance center stage. I
nervously flipped through my collection, trying to find just the
right song, and Perry Como's version of 'Fly Me to the Moon' didn't
let me down. |
Take a look at some of the action as it went down:
