The big day is coming! The culmination of two and a half years of work will finally debut on November 7, 2019. ‘Don’t You Blow Your Big Top‘ opens at the Foundation Event Space in Kansas City’s West Bottoms.
On Thursday, November 7th from 6-10 in the West Bottoms, the Foundation Event Space is hosting ‘Don’t You Blow Your Big Top’, a solo painting show of recent oil paintings and drawings by Kansas City artist Michael Schliefke.
This show features over thirty eight new oil paintings centered around the brash volume of discourse in America today. American bravado is on full display throughout the works exhibited. Bulls running rampant is the cohesive theme through these works, representing the crazed pace of life and disconnecting discourse today. Rodeo clowns, carnivals, matadors and sideshows help recreate the tensions, bravado, excitement and disappointment of today’s times.
This is the first comprehensive show of new work for Michael since 2014. In that time, Michael relocated back to Kansas City from Austin, Texas. He also painted sets for the Lyric Opera and continues to teach private classes for children and adults.
Stay tuned for previews of some of the work for this solo painting show. You can also catch glimpses of the progress of the work by looking at past studio updates. Don’t forget to join the facebook event as well!
