February 19, 2006 - And with the big job wrapped up, DMac's boss' boss took the crew and a bunch of the other higher ups out for a night of steaks and drinks at one of Houston's finest steakhouses - Vic and
Anthony's. As we were being seated, word spread among the group that Puff Daddy and Jay-Z were upstairs hosting a private party. The reality of the extravagance of the restaurant was cemented when the menus arrived.I looked up and down the menu, and settled on a thirty dollar piece of veal. About the same amount as my weekly food budget, the veal filled the plate and tasted pretty damn amazing. DMac and I started to order the same drinks, and as the waiter came by, I would order another round for the two of us. After
enough rounds, the waiter made his own assumptions and when it was time for dessert, the waiter dropped DMac's selection off with two forks - one for both of us.
After running up a tab that would pay my rent for months on end, we retired to the lounge for a nightcap. When we got there, the bartenders were packing up for the night, no drinks were being served. When all was said and done, a sizable tab can do wonders - the manager quickly appeared, apologized, and ensured us the drinks would flow until 2 am.
Money goes a long ways...
