HOUSTON'S BEST MEXICAN FISH RESTAURANT? MAKE MINE MAMBO!|

| February 17, 2006 - We wearily headed up out of Houston on 620 towards our low rent hotel tired and hungry. DMac spotted Mambo Seafood the previous night when we settled for some fine Tecate and tacos at Taco Cabana as a late night fix.
We snaked our way in our golden caravan and entered another world: Mexican seafood. DMac and I joined the rest of the group after depositing a couple bucks in the jukebox, selecting some hot Selena and Grupo Climax tunes to serve as tejano dining music. |
With a menu filled with cheap fish plates and appetizers, ordering was fast and easy. The cerveza kept us going until the appetizers arrived - DMac's plate of a dozen oysters was siz bucks and among the best he's tasted. Various shrimps, oysters and sauces were passed through the table, and our appetites were primed for the meal. When the first dinner plates made their way to the table, hunger turned to shock and awe as gigantic portions overflowed the edges of the plates. As we ate, the tejano music provided a fine element
combined with the multi-lingual voices carrying through the dining hall. I can't remember ever eating a better plate of fish in my life.
By the time we finished our food, we were ready to trudge back to our creepy sleeping environs with better news on the way: We'd be changing hotels to a new downtown location for our next nights sleep. Happy, stuffed, and filled with visions of cleanliness in our heads, we headed out the door knowing we may never eat fish as good as Mambo again.
