IN N OUT
BURGERS
I debated for
weeks in my mind whether IN N OUT would be my first eating stop in
California or not. As it turned out, I chose to leave IN N OUT
for my second day in Orange County, feeling refreshed and more
grounded in my new digs. For most of my adult life, I've heard
just how good IN N OUT's burgers are, including the scene in the
immortal Big Lebowski where IN N OUT plays a
prominent role. |

WALTER - He lives in North Hollywood on Radford, near the
In-and-Out Burger-
DUDE - The In-and-Out Burger is on Camrose.
WALTER - Near the In-and-Out Burger--
DONNY - Those are good burgers, Walter.
....
WALTER - What have you. We'll, uh--
DONNY - We'll be near the In-and-Out Burger.
WALTER - Shut the fuck up, Donny. We'll, uh, brace the
kid--he'll be a pushover. We'll get that fucking
money, if he hasn't spent it already. Million fucking
clams. And yes, we'll be near the, uh--some burgers, some beers,
a few laughs. Our fucking troubles are over, Dude.

My excitement bubbled
over, and I played it safe, declining to order the 2x2 or even the
4x4 and just getting a cheeseburger,
animal style, as my friend and former OC resident Paul from
Rubber Robot instructed me on. The words stumbled out of
my mouth, and the wait was almost intolerable. But then our
number was called, and I was greeted with a fresh burger, shockingly
delicious fries, and lots of sauce and sautéed onions. It was
incredible, so much so, I had to wash it down with another
cheeseburger. Once you catch the fever, no other chain will
never ever do it for you. All week, I had IN N OUT urges,
finally quenching them my next to last day in the OC, with a long
wait accompanying another heavenly trip of gastric consumption. |
