SNOW AND ICE, PART ONE | | February, 2008 - With a bit more luck on my side, I would have been spending a couple of winter months on a sunny beach in Southern California. Because of my parents' decision to move back to the Northeast just in time for winter, my
return home was a bit chillier than I had hoped. New England was pummeled by a fierce winter with storms of ice and snow raining down on the populace on an almost daily basis.
All of the cold reminded me of one of the reasons I left New England.

I was surprised by two things: without being forced to sit through school or a day job, I was able to spend the wintry days lounging around eating food and running errands throughout the small New England
towns. Because of this, my sever aversion to New England's winter was quellled a bit. My own diagnosis of Seasonal Affective Disorder never seemed to kick in, mostly because I was able to see sunlight on almost every day. When the snow did fall, the beauty of the event really stood out - I had forgotten just how quiet and pretty the whole affair really is. The snow deadens all sound, and the pristine nature of the white snow, wet, soft
fluffy, and not nearly as cold as my childhood memories, covered the small New England towns and really lent a gorgeous atmosphere to the proceedings. |

of course I was forced into the
shoveling business, one of the worst tasks I've ever had to perform on a regular basis in my life.
