These painting classes are great for beginners, hobbyists, artists and people just wanting to dabble in a new field. Set at your own pace, each class lets you explore your creative side while learning new techniques and ideas.
Set in a laid back, supportive environment, these classes will walk you through the basics of painting (color mixing, paint application, value, form, composition, drawing, etc) at an easy going pace. Stories from art history will be explained and interwoven into the classes.

My goal for these classes is to give you the confidence, knowledge, techniques and skills you need to enjoy painting on your own.

I have restarted in-person classes! PLEASE BE VACCINATED if you contact me about in-person classes. I still offer online classes for non-vaccinated people. Life is full of choices, and your private choices have public consequences. In an effort to maintain a healthy and safe working environment for my students and myself, I’m only allowing vaccinated people into the studio that I spend working upwards of twelve hours a day. Please respect this decision as I respect yours.
I have over 16 years of teaching experience. I’ve taught all levels, from tepid beginners to driven teens to retirees and hobby painters. I have lots of patience and foster a supportive environment to help you get what you need from the classes.
These art classes are located in the historic northeast just blocks from the Kansas City Museum. My studio is located near 29, 35, 70, and 71. In a safe, family oriented neighborhood, my studio has off street parking and full climate control! Here’s a handy map and directions with a pretty and easy route to my studio. There are plenty of flexible class times that will fit with your busy schedule!
Classes are 90 minutes long and meet once a week. You can sign up for 4 or 8 week sessions. My schedule has some flexibility, and arrangements can be made for your busy schedule.

Eight weeks of painting classes costs $320
Four weeks of painting classes costs $160 - BRING A FRIEND
You can bring a friend, colleague, or family member along and each of you only pay $120 for four lessons or $240 each for eight lessons - DISCOUNT RATE
A special rate for the following folks:
Seniors over the age of 65
Residents in the 64123 or 64124 zip codes
Student loan rate: adults aged 22-26
The discount rate for classes is $280 for eight weeks and $140 for four weeks
MATERIALS:
Palettes, easels, rags and liquid materials will be provided. Students need to bring their own canvases to class! Students are encouraged to bring their own paints to classes, but paints and brushes can be provided in the classes. I have a basic list of materials that can be picked up at any art or hobby store if you would like to have materials you can use at home.
Class Schedules
Class times are available on a rolling basis, so all you need to do is pick a day and time that fits your schedule and contact Michael to start your classes. All available class times are listed as open.
Class schedules are fairly flexible, with advance notice, classes can be rescheduled during the week or in case of vacations or other issues, a week can be skipped without losing your classtime. I just ask that you not abuse this and notify me as early as possible if you won’t be able to attend an art lesson.
Class schedules fill up in January fast, so if you’re looking to start painting or drawing classes, now is a great time to sign up with the best class times still available.
