Mar 2017 – Rodeo bulls continued to take center stage on my new work in the studio this month. Instead of graceful, mythic European matadors at the center, a bunch of crass, tasteless American clowns rose up to challenge the bulls.
With my recent painting efforts being devoted to matadors, I moved into a new realm with bulls: rodeo clowns. The subject matter was an immediate hit for me. I love the brash, crass, annoying nature of the rodeo clowns. It fits perfectly with America today. Having the clowns clad in star spangled garb only helps the imagery. So here are the four paintings I’ve started working on:
