Biblical Proportions was a two gallery show curated by Ian Shults and Michael Schliefke in Austin, Texas in April, 2009. The show opened with the Old Testament Show at Blue Genie Art, and then was followed the next night with the New Testament Show at Bearded Lady. The work of over sixty artists were on display between the two shows.
Samples of Work from the Show:
Michael Schliefke’s brainchild, this show set out to create a show of actual biblical proportions. Dealing with two spaces , and over sixty artists, it was a lot to produce. Religion is often problematic, and this show was no different. The subject of religion was touchy for many artists, and I tried steering artist into the imagery and stories instead of the religious aspects. This ambitious show filled out an entire weekend, and had huge crowds on both days. The shows were set on Easter Weekend, with the fire and brimstone Old Testament Show opening on Good Friday, and both shows staying open on Easter Sunday.
